I'm glad you learned about this issue. Now you can make informed choices about how you care for the environment. It was a pleasure to have you in class, Alec. Have a great summer.

Maybe you should explain in greater detail how each one of these suggestions will help global warming. For example, what should I replace my incandescent with? And how is taking a train better for the environment than a plane? How long should a take a shower; do you have any statistics or recommendations? How does my consumption of red meat affect the environment? Go into more detail all around, these are good tips, but I’m left with a lot of questions.

I like your ten ways to reduce global warming. All of your ideas were really good except the one to dry your cloth on a line. No one would do that because the chance of something being stolen is to great.

Responses to your suggestions:

1. No. The are more expensive and burn out far too frequently.

2. OK. Tell that to Al Gore.

3. Only when it gets too hot.

4. Brave New World, anyone?

5. Why?

6. That I can agree with. If only for heating bills.

7. No.

8. No. The more animals I kill, the less methane is put into the atmosphere. Shoot a deer, save the planet.

9. No.

10. Energy cannot be created.

This is great for energy efficiency, but none of this can be linked to "global warming."

hmmm...how are you going to film that first one? The last one seems like it would be easy to film and it could be effective.

Alec--
I'm so proud of you--the summaries are excellent (and interesting articles as well--thanks for sharing).

Now work on your response--you've done fine with the personal response part, but now you need to think about how you are going to use this information. Will any of it fit in with your segment? What about other groups' segments? Think about what you could pair it with.

Keep up the great work! :-)

Great, Alec! These look really good. The next think you want to do is figure out what to DO with this information--which segment would it be useful for? With whom can you share this information? Does it "prove" anything, one way or the other?

These are very good scripts! You might want to give them some contact info for you, though. Have you actually contacted these individuals? We need to start scheduling these interviews ASAP!

Alec--

I'm interested in this article that says that spring is coming earlier. While I'm with you on liking spring, I don't think that it's healthy for the change to happen so drastically--don't you think there's a reason that the plants and animals that live in an area, live there instead of somewhere else. For example, why wouldn't grizzly bears live in South Florida?

One thing I've noticed this year is that my lilac bush bloomed in the middle of winter (just one or two flowers) and now is much later in it's real bloom (usually by my birthday it is in full bloom--and my birthday is on Thursday, just so you know!)

So perhaps we shouldn't think only about our preferences and think about the environment as a whole--or we could move to San Diego :-)

Alec--

Did you see that Dr. Meretksky is a professor in Indiana? While she probably wouldn't come to St. Louis, she might be amenable to (happy to) have an e-mail conversation with you about climate change and its effects on polar bears and other wildlife.

Her address is listed at the bottom of the article--always a good idea to check to see if you can get more contacts! :-)
